Transcription: The Surveyor missions prepared the way for lunar landings by manned Apollo missions. Its TV cameras captured the first close-up photographs of the Moon and provided much needed information about the Moon's surface. The Lunar Orbiter missions transmitted to Earth the first photographs of the Moon's previously unseen dark side. The missions after Apollo 14 were able to explore much greater areas using a lunar rover. The rover extended the astronauts' exploration time by lowering exertion levels.
